One year of bloggediness

I have a blog. Do you have a blog? I bet no one cares that we have blogs… Does anyone ever read yours?

1yearThis blog has seen a post a week for 11 of the last 12 months, with two posts a week in the last month to make up for that. No one cares, but here’s why I do:

  1. I like writing. I like getting better at writing. I don’t get better at writing unless I’m actually writing, so writing once a week is both pleasing and productive.
  2. It’ll be worth it someday. I have this (perhaps mistaken) idea that someday I’ll get around to publicizing/marketing all this content I’ve written. Right now it’s pretty much only read by people who know me personally, a sizable but limited audience. I really do think much of what is here is valuable, but I’ve done almost nothing to bring it to an audience that might agree with me on that…yet.
  3. Social media sucks. Facebook has been steadily degrading since 2011, pissing me off in the process. Twitter is too short. YouTube is too time intensive and visual performance based. Google+ is a figment of Google’s imagination. Ello isn’t yet ready for mass consumption. I like having a place to talk about learning, music, technologylife, and whatever I fancy. I love speaking about stuff that interests me, because most of the world does.

I’ve been blogging on an off for a decade, and most of those writings can be found here now. I don’t know if I’ll be blogging a decade from now or not, probably I will.

One year ago I made this website to join all the others together, and I’m glad I did it. In the next year, I’ll be balancing 50/50 the writing with the tweaking & promoting. I’ll just keep pressing the “blog” button and see if anything more happens…
