I was asked for 3-5 bullet introduction. Here’s what I gave them:
- Sam has been here at ConvaTec for 2 years as the Global Learning Technology & Analytics Manager, which has come to mean Learning Operations.
- Previous to that he had his own San Francisco based consulting company, making, managing, & measuring training for clients like Google, Deloitte, Protiviti, ADP, and more.
- Though he’s worked in Learning & Development for over 20 years, he’s also managed parallel careers working as a professional musician/producer, group facilitator, expert witness, and other things that don’t seem like they go together but that he finds strangely do.
- Always passionately curious and learning new skills, he’s currently pursuing his Private Pilot License.

People never know what to say about me.
Yeah, well… me neither! There are almost always better things to talk about than me, such as the project at hand.
Here’s the 5-bullets I wish I could say instead:
- This is Sam. You’re going to see more of him from now on.
- Is he qualified for this new role? Not really.
- Is he qualified for anything here? Eh, probably not.
- Does it matter? No, it does not. Because some things are broken that he can help fix.
- How? By stepping in to deliver something no one else has been bold and/or stupid enough to tackle, and by playing nicely with other smart people like you!
Historically, I get more work out of saying “I’m not the best person for this” than any other thing I can possibly say. I don’t understand it. The truth is that I just keep showing up and caring and rolling up my sleeves to do the real work. Along the way that almost always means working hard at making things make sense, because there isn’t enough of that to go around.
