Annual Donations - 2019

Once a year I pick five charitable organizations I believe in and give money. I save a little bit each month for this (usually about 5% of my income), so it feels like a bigger contribution when I make it. Plus it takes way less time and overhead to just sit down and do it once a year.

Last year most went to environmental causes. This year I went informational and social. I share these with you now in hopes that you might consider giving too, as you can.

1. The Tor Project = Internet privacy is a bigger issue now than ever! This non-profit advances human rights and defends your privacy online through free software and open networks.
2. Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) = Leading nonprofit defending digital privacy, free speech, and innovation. If you care about it when powerful corporations attempt to shut down online speech, prevent new innovation from reaching consumers, and facilitate government surveillance, the EFF is out there fighting for you.
3. Doctors Without Borders (Médecins Sans Frontières) = An international, independent medical humanitarian organisation. They provide medical assistance to people affected by conflict, epidemics, disasters, or exclusion from healthcare.
4. RAINN (Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network) = This the USA’s largest anti-sexual violence organization. RAINN created and operates the National Sexual Assault Hotline runs several other important programs to prevent sexual violence, help survivors, and ensure that perpetrators are brought to justice.
5. Kiva = This isn’t exclusively a charity, they primarily facilitate crowdsourced microloans in developing nations. With their help, my money has been lent out & repaid many times over (as is pictured above). But I also give them money to continue their innovation and outreach efforts.
