Broad Funnel, Tight Filter
This idea comes from one of my perennial favorites, Atomic Habits author James Clear, who recently recommended that we each:
Research widely, select carefully.
Broad funnel, tight filter.
This says in fewer words what I’ve tried to say many times over in my talks and writings. It is one of the open secrets to how I learn and do as much as I do.
Of all the things that there are, only a precious few are worthwhile to pursue. Choosing well is a creative and courageous act. No amount of qualifying inputs can guarantee a good output, just as no amount of effort can ensure the desired outcome.
Remaining curious about everything, but ruthless about what we choose to use our time for, creates a powerful leverage point for intentional living.
Let’s live it up, people!
