Getting Maui'd

Yes! Denise and I finally are getting married next week on Maui, but no you can’t come.

To start, you gotta understand that I’ve been pretty much every part of a wedding (except the groom).

  • I was the ring bearer in 11 weddings by the time I was 10 years old.
  • I’ve performed & DJ’d music at far too many weddings.
  • I’ve been videographer/photographer at weddings.
  • I’ve helped with the catering at weddings.
  • I’ve helped organize & plan weddings.
  • I’ve done the reading at weddings.
  • I’ve actually officiated weddings.
  • I’ve been the best man.
  • I’ve signed as witness. Okay, I guess I’ve never been the flower girl or the bridesmaid. And growing up in the SF Bay Area with my crazy group of friends, I certainly could have been these if I wanted to – but I didn’t, because as you can see, I’ve kinda done weddings.

But I’ve never been married. At least not officially. Unofficially, I suppose I’ve even been kind of a groom-lite before, but that’s a beautiful story for another time. Back to this time.

Yep, one week from today, Denise (my partner for more than a decade) and I are finally tying the knot, while barefoot on Maui! Yay!

So sorry you weren’t invited, but don’t feel bad because nobody was really.

I really didn’t want the kind of production wedding that I’ve been so many parts of in the past. And since Denise has been married before and done the big production thing too (and hated it!), she didn’t really want to do that either. So we’re not. It’s just us with a few exceptions:

  1. Priest = One of my dearest and oldest friends has since become a priest, and we’re flying him out to be the one to marry Denise and I.
  2. Musician = A friend of mine who’s like a brother to Denise and happens to live on the island will be there to play guitar and bear witness. He’ll also be taking some pictures.

And that’s it.

No church, no family, no registry, no cake, no fuss. Minimal. Just two people in a beautiful natural setting declaring our love for each other and our commitment into the future. That’s how we roll.

And though we’ve been together for nearly a dozen years already, and known each other for almost two decades, we’re still pretty excited about it <3

Aloha!
