This is one of those things I’d love to be wrong about, but I’m guessing you, or someone you care about, is going to get a call after business hours on Thursday. Something will be wrong. You’ll be contacted by a financial institution or agency or maybe some account that you hold for a service that you enjoy or depend on. They’re going to ask for some information to validate that you are who you say you are.
Do not give it to them.
It’ll sound like it can’t wait. You’re going to need to do something immediately, but it’s a three-day weekend with the holiday. And it’s a celebration and who wants to be bothered?
Exactly. There is no emergency. It can wait until Monday.
On Monday you call the financial institution or service provider yourself. And when you do, you’ll discover that no one from their company called. Chances are no human ever called you at all. It was a completely automated scam.
It’s pretty easy to do these days. And this Thursday is the perfect time to run one. Don’t fall for it. Don’t let the people that you care about fall for it. Especially the people who are maybe older or maybe younger or maybe English isn’t their first language. These people are all easy prey and we need to look out for each other.
