I was very happy to be at NearCon in San Francisco earlier this week, and I had a great time with speaking with fellow contributors and developers and enthusiasts. For those wondering, no my very first hackathon entry didn’t win anything. But the winners were each stunning projects, and I loved getting to talk to some of the teams that delivered them.
But it wasn’t all smiles and rainbows, there was something strange in the air too. The most interesting and surprising thing to me was how un-integrated the people themselves seemed to be. Most conversations went from manically hopeful to nihilistically hopeless. I’d not experienced this before. Taking it all in.
