Here is my monthly Now page for November 2nd, 2022. For my current Now page, go here.

The big news is that I’m stepping away from the professional world for a while to better care for family needs.

And since I’m no longer a member of the working world, everybody seems to want to know what I’m doing. Here goes my current answer to that:

  1. Taking a break. Because I do need one of those. I don’t generally take breaks, and in fact I will still be finishing up some other client work that’s straggling into this week. But then that’s it for a while. I’ve been working at least one job and usually several simultaneously since I was 17. I’m taking at least the rest of the year off, probably into Q1 of 2023. While this is not the financially sensible thing to do, it’s the right thing to do. Because I’ve prepared I’m okay dipping into savings for a bit without any harsh consequences.
  2. Caregiving. Because a beloved family member is dying, which is the main reason I left my job. Curiously, this situation is NOT covered by the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA). Apparently what I consider family and what the law protects are quite different. Whatever. A good death is way more important than a good job, IMHO.
  3. Getting my own life in order. Because it could certainly use it. I’ll be optimizing everything from my information systems to my personal finances, and hopefully reconnecting with other friends and family that I’ve not really kept in touch with well since before the Pandemic. If you have my phone number, feel free to give me a call! And if you don’t have my phone number, it’s about to get a bit harder to find.

Some mini projects I’m playing with:

Other updates from last month’s Now page:

  • Not moving after all. This is a great disappointment to me, as we found the perfect place that I believe would have reduced suffering and solved a lot of problems. But I do accept that “don’t argue with the dying” as an even better plan.
  • Grand Canyon was spectacular! Combining my first helicopter ride with my first visit to The Grand Canyon by seeing my first glimpses of the Canyon from directly above it in a helicopter was very exhilarating indeed! Denise loved her birthday trip, but I might have enjoyed it even more.

That’s it for now for me! Wishing you well as well.
